It was the 7th of July.
Signing a document related to national reunification that morning, President Kim Il Sung directed the work concerning the flood-control measure. In the afternoon he gave guidance to the work of international affairs and to the undertaking related to the construction of a heavy oil power plant and at night, without rest he went on working. The President didn´t help himself to even the belated meal.
Worrying about his overwork, an official asked him to have meal. But the President said that he didn´t know why but he had no feeling to have and that the more work might urge him to good appetite.
Hurt by his words unusually, the official asked again. "How can you work on without having meals."
At his words the President said to this effect in calm but strenuous tone:
Thank you...but we have too much work to do for the people...If I stop my work, it will burden your Supreme Commander that much. Shouldering big and small works on his shoulder solely, Kim Jong Il is doing too much work. That Kim Jong Il works for the people all night refrains me from taking a rest just for a while.
That was why he could not lay the work aside for a moment.
The summer night was getting far advanced but he worked and worked. Examining the documents, phoning and inspecting the documents again...
His last daily work of devotion for the people was flown.
Kim Jong Il said to this effect concerning the President´s infinite devotion to the Party and revolution, fatherland and people to the last moment of his life.
President Kim Il Sung passed away at his office while enthusiastically working for the Party and revolution, the fatherland and people. The demise of the President is the death at his post. There are no leaders except President Kim Il Sung who worked enthusiastically and finished his job honorably to the last moment of life. And in that respect Kim Il Sung is the greatest of all great men.
