“The Peace power of Korean Candlelit People Leads to the Demand as the Interruption of THAAD deployment“

The power of the Korean candlelight demonstration, which started last October, has led the impeachment of the former President Park Geun-hye. Finally, Park was ousted from the presidency on March 10 and arrested on March 31.

During the six-month period, 21 rallies were held on weekends and some weekdays, with the participation of 17 million people in accumulation from all ages, from elementary school students to seniors over 80, regardless of man or woman. In the end, the candlelight demonstrations have created the base for ousting injustice out in the society.

And now the next goal is to advance Democracy and to reverse the wrong policies to the right directions. The urgent goal is imperative to cancel the decision of THAAD deployment on the Korean peninsula.

THAAD is apparently belong to United States' Defense System (MD) and has been secretly pursued between the US government and former President Park Geun-hye, whose decision should be no more valid immediately upon impeachment on her. However, during middle of one night, the United States secretly transported to land in some elements of the THAAD system to the peninsular, saying that it was arranged with Park Geun-hye, former president.

Now, Ms. Park, former president has been impeached and arrested. At the same time, Korean people are now engaged in an election process, scheduled early May to select a new president. The United States, however, is unilaterally and permanently ignoring the sovereignty of South Korea in continuous pursuit of unilateral THAAD deployment without any proper and proper consensus with Korean organizations, including people’s parliament.

In addition, China is incurring some threat to the livelihood of the Korean people by carrying out all kinds of sanctions on the economic, trade, tourism and cultural matters, while forcing South Korea, not on USA who is the subject to plan and decide the deployment, to interrupt THAAD deployment.

On April 1, Saturday, the Korean candlelight demonstration at Gwanghwamun plaza was a rally to announce a new starting momentum for the public opposition against THAAD. The power of the justice and peace from candlelight Korean people, to which third worlds are paying keen attentions, is being transferred on the demand for the interruption of THAAD, likely to be deployed by US army sooner or later in Korea.

We publicly announce the objection and the strong will of Korean people against THAAD to American, and Chinese authorities and to the citizens of all the world whoever stand up for Peace.

Occasionally, during the upcoming US-China Summit Talk in April 6~7, we will send delegates to the USA to deliver official letters to White House and UN Headquarter against THAAD deployment in Korea. At the same time, the delegates will have performances and interviews to show Korean decision against THAAD and Chinese sanctions, undue on Korea. The delegates are representatives from National Conference of people in Sovereignty, one of the major citizen groups that led candlelight demonstrations, and the four major religion groups of Catholics, Protestants, Buddhism, and Won-Buddhism.

The Korean delegation departing on April 4th will hold a press conference with local media in the USA on the 5th of April, and deliver a letter to President Trump during the afternoon demonstrations in front of the White House, which is containing the strong position of the Korean people against the THAAD deployment. On the 7th of April, the delegates will visit UN headquarters in New York to deliver a letter to UN senior officials, which also contains the strong warning that the deployment of THAAD into the Korean peninsula could bring about a nuclear war crisis. During the visit of the Korean delegation to the USA against to the THAAD deployment, activist members from National Conference of people in Sovereignty, KNCC, and Nationwide Action against THAAD will conduct picket-relay demonstrations in front of the US Embassy in Seoul, Korea.

We wish that people in the world stand up to protect peace and support such activities that the Korean people are fighting against the THAAD deployment in Korean peninsula through performance and demonstration in actions both in the United States and South Korea, informing thereof to the domestic reporters and foreign correspondents on daily base. The end.
